BIOGRAPHY
Swedish band Sabaton have been a major force in the power metal field since the mid-2000s, but had to battle through significant difficulties to get there, which may explain their eventual creative obsession with everything war-related.
Originally founded in 1999 and comprised of Joakim Brodén (vocals and keyboards), Rickard Sundén (guitar), Oskar Montelius (guitar), Daniel Myhr (keyboards, beginning in 2006), Pär Sundström (bass), and Richard Larsson (drums), the enterprising group quickly produced two demo tapes that were later released in a limited edition as Fist For Fight in 2002.
But after inking a deal with Italian label Underground Symphony, Sabaton saw their first would-be official album, Metalizer, inexplicably held out of the marketplace for a full two years. Tired of waiting, the members of Sabaton (now including new drummer Daniel Mullback), once again took matters into their own hands, and financed the recording of another album, Primo Victoria, which was officially released in 2005 by the Black Lodge label. It also opened the floodgates for a slew of popular singles and battle metal LPs to follow, including 2006’s Attero Dominatus, 2008’s The Art Of War, and 2010’s Coat Of Arms, all of them bursting at the seams with historic and mythical chronicles of battle set to anthemic power metal.
The band became increasingly successful across Europe, witnessed on 2011’s live album, World War Live: Battle Of The Baltic Sea, featuring a dozen tracks and ten different countries. The following year’s Carolus Rex hit number one in Sweden and Poland, but it was the last for that lineup; 2014’s Heroes featured new guitarists Chris Rörland and Thobbe Englund plus new drummer Hannes van Dahl alongside the stalwarts Brodén and Sundström.
In 2016, after their tour with Alestorm and Bloodbound in February, the band announces the release of their eighth album entitled The Last Stand.
They are currently in studio to record their ninth album that will be released in 2019.

The second single Resist And Bite was also released digitally on 2 May 2014, available on iTunes, Nuclear Blast and Amazon.
Pär Sundström said about the album’s concept: “Well, I think this is a perfect concept for Sabaton. We decided to go for the idea to write about individuals instead of bigger battles. Individuals who we think basically went beyond their call of duty, put themselves into harm’s way for the good of others“.
In an interview to the Brazilian Army’s official blog, Sundström explained that the idea for the track “Smoking Snakes” came when he was doing some research for the album: “I tried searching for the word ‘Helden’, which means heroes in German. I then came across the story of the Drei Brasilianischen Helden (Three Brazilian Heroes) and, from that point on, we deepened our research and decided to write the track.” On 17 April 2015, the Brazilian 14th Motorized Infantry Brigade Orchestra covered the song as a thanksgiving.

Metalizer is the third full-length release by Swedish power metal band Sabaton, but was actually recorded as their professional debut album (second overall) in 2002. The band’s first record company, Underground Symphony, withheld the recordings for several years before arranging to release the rights to the band’s new label Black Lodge Records.
The band’s first album, the demo compilation Fist for Fight, is included as a bonus disc with a previously unreleased track. Most of the tracks on the first disc are re-recordings from this release.
Metalizer reached 21st place in the Swedish album charts.
In 2010 the album was re-released on German label Nuclear Blast with four bonus tracks, under the name Metalizer Re-Armed.
Attero Dominatus / 2006
Attero Dominatus is the second album by Swedish power metal band Sabaton, as well as the first to feature keyboardist Daniel Mÿhr. The album reached 16th place on the Swedish album charts, remaining in the listings for seven weeks.
According to reviewer Chris Dahlberg, the Latin album title is intended to mean “destroy tyranny.” “Attero Dominatus,” however, means “I destroy tyrannies.”
A video for the title track was shot in Umeå, Sweden, by Nocturnal Rites‘ drummer Owe Lingvall. For the recording, the band wore camouflage gear, and singer Joakim Brodén donned a vest with metal plates, both features which came to be part of the band’s regular stage gear from that point on.
In 2010, the album was re-released on German label Nuclear Blast with five bonus tracks, under the title Attero Dominatus Re-Armed

Primo Victoria instead became Sabaton‘s debut album, recorded in 2004 in Abyss Studios, and released the following year with their new label, Black Lodge Records.
In 2010 the album was re-released on German label Nuclear Blast, with six additional bonus tracks, under the name Primo Victoria Re-Armed. The re-release reached 43rd place in the Swedish album charts
