BIOGRAPHY
Maj Karma is a band founded in Harjavalta in 1992 and plays melodic heavyrock.
The current composition of the band is influenced by singer Lord Ylppö, guitarist Häiriö, drummer J. Savolainen and bassist Kimmo Kurittu who joined the band in 2005.
A studio album was due to be released in August 2008, but the release had to be over in half a year. As a cause, the band announced in their official press release that drummer J. Savolainen’s dog destroyed the drum and bass guitar hard disks, but later this proved to be a joke. The album “Salama“, was released on March 28, 2009 and the first single of the album was released in January 2009. In August 2009, the group announced that they were going to take a break for a while.
Mr. Ylppö announced in an interview with Radio Rock on December 23rd, 2010 that Maj Karman would return in 2013. However, the return came to an end and in Karmarock 2014 the band announced that they would start working on a new album. The band featured in the 25th anniversary tour of Don Huon’s gigs in the spring of 2015.
In December 2015, the band released a new single “Puumiekka” from the Peltisydän album. The album was released through Sony Music Entertainment Finland (Ratas Music Group).
In March 2017, Sakara Records announced on Facebook that Maj Karman will record with them in the future.
Initially, the band acted as ‘Maij´ Karman Kauniit Kuvat’. The name was changed to Maj Karman Kauniit Kuvat due to misuse of the name. In 2004, the name was abbreviated as Maj Karma. Also the acronym MKKK was in use until 1998, when the band stopped using this name as the KKK is often associated with the Ku Klux Klan.
The band also has its own festival, Karmarock, which was first organized in the summer of 1992 in Harjavalta, and has been arranged since then every year. In the first years, the festival was free and very small, but it has grown with the band’s popularity and is currently paid.
