BIOGRAPHY
Desolator is a Swedish death metal band formed in 2009, that entered the scene with the “Gravefeast” demo in 2010 and a split with Greek band Resurgency in 2011. The debut album “Unearthly Monument” came out in 2013 on Hellthrasher Productions.
The band’s early efforts were classic Swedish-style death metal in the vein of Entombed and Dismember. With the 2016 EP “Spawn of Misanthropy” came a direction change to a more American-sounding, progressive and ominous sound akin to Immolation and Morbid Angel, but with most of the Swedish hooks intact.
After joining Black Lion Records, 2020 saw the light of the second full-length album “Sermon of Apathy” – the logical continuation to “Spawn of Misanthropy“. Here, Desolator further explores the depths of epic and monolithic death metal. “Sermon of Apathy” features epic tracks like “Portal Tomb” and “The Great Law of the Dead” alongside direct bangers like “Adversarial Doctrine” and “The Human Condition“. This is fueled by a dynamic three-person vocal attack. The production values have been greatly improved, thanks to mixing and mastering by Jari Lindholm, and the closing track features a guest solo by Karl Sanders from Nile.
2019 saw Desolator play alongside Satyricon, Decapitated and Batushka at the Helliad Fest in Gdynia, Poland. For obvious reasons, 2020 will be a year focused on releasing “Sermon of Apathy“, but the hopes are to get featured on festivals once again in 2021.
