A Heavy Metal Civilization: The History Of Finnish Heavy Metal
“A Heavy Metal Civilization” is documentary film about Finland and the relation of its society with rock and metal music. It will also show how Finland is branded abroad as “a heavy metal country”. Telling the story of the evolution of the Finnish heavy metal scene starting from the 80’s, going through the 90’s and 2000’s until nowadays.
The story is told through interviews made with the most famous and representing Finnish musicians and industry professionals like, Marco Hietala (Nightwish), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth), Mathias Nygård (Turisas), Tony Kakko and Pasi Kauppinen (Sonata Arctica), Lauri Porra (Stratovarius), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Henri Sorvali (Moonsorrow), Mika Luttinen (Impaled Nazarene) and many others who also tell about their experiences and professional trajectory.
While they narrate the story several images such as pictures, images of concerts and festivals, excerpts of video clips, old photos and images of Finland will illustrate the story as well. The documentary also contains the testimony of famous musicians also from abroad telling their impressions on Finland being or not a heavy metal country.
Nobody is better to talk about it than those who set the ground, this is why we decided to make this film and let them answer the big question: How did Finland become the land of heavy metal?
